Annual Wellness Check-Ups

Annual wellness check-ups are preventive visits, or those that help prevent illness, to make sure that you’re staying in good health. They’re also a great time to get your annual physical, and talk to your doctor about everything from your health risk factors to your wellness goals.

What to expect

Annual wellness check-ups help you and your doctor stay on top of your short and long-term health. Here’s a closer look at what you can expect during your next visit.

Checking Vitals

Wellness visits start with your doctor looking at your vital signs. This includes your temperature, blood pressure, heart rate, and respiration rate. It’s important to check these, because they help your doctor see your body’s basic functions in real time.

They can also help your doctor diagnose you with something you didn’t know you had. For example, normal blood pressure is 120/80. If yours is 140/90 and you’ve had headaches and dizziness, you could have high blood pressure.

General Lifestyle

Your doctor will also want to discuss different areas of your lifestyle. This can include your diet, sleep patterns, and your immunizations. It’s important here to be as honest as possible during these discussions, because your answers help your doctor put you on the right track for better health.

What happens during a wellness check-up also depends on your age, gender, and risk factors. For example, it could include screenings for high cholesterol and diabetes, mammograms, and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

Medications

If you’re on any medications, your doctor will want to talk about any side effects and if you think the medicine is working. If you’ve been on a particular medication for a long time, its effectiveness could wear off.

For example, if you’ve taken the same migraine medication for a long time but have gotten more migraines lately than normal, your doctor might switch medications. Your doctor might also refer you to a specialist for your treatment.

What are the benefits of an annual wellness visit?

There are many benefits of an annual wellness visit. From treating illnesses early to switching you to a better medication, here are some reasons why wellness visits matter on your journey to better health.

Prevention & Early Detection

Even if you’re in fairly good health, an annual visit can help your doctor spot any red flags that you might not have noticed or didn’t think anything of. These visits are part of a prevention plan, and the sooner we diagnose and treat an illness or disease, the easier it is for us to keep it from getting worse.

And if we can do this, we’re helping you live a healthy life. That’s our goal, and that’s what we’ve dedicated our lives to doing for every member of your family.

Building Relationships

Annual visits also help you build a good relationship with your doctor. Trust is one of the most important parts of our job, and you’ll have personal conversations about your life and wellbeing that’ll help build this trust over time.

Yet we know that it’s not easily earned. We’re committed to earning it and showing you how we can improve your wellbeing with the most compassionate care. We want you to feel comfortable and at ease when you come through our doors, and we look forward to improving your quality of life with every visit.

Barg Family Clinic will be closed on Monday, April 8, 2024 due to the Solar Eclipse as Little Rock is in the direct path of this event. We have carefully considered the difficulties this event will place on our patients and staff as we are facing multiple school closures and an expected 1.5 million out of state visitors that will cause extreme travel concerns this day. We will have a provider on-call throughout the day. Should you have an emergent medical need that cannot wait until we re-open, you can reach our on-call provider at 501-580-0840. Thank you allowing us to serve you for your healthcare needs!
